I don't know where the shame of feeling like a tourist comes from. I have heard many friends, in full tourist attitude, not realizing that, even if they don't mix with them, they are tourists like any other. When I visit a place and I don't have enough time to get to know it except superficially, I take on my role as a tourist without shame. I like to join those flash trips where the guides explain to you everything you see from the window. "On your right and on your left ladies and gentlemen ..."  One of the reasons is that this way I know once and for all everything that I won't have to worry about when I go back to explore that place on my own.
